Dropshipping Courses: Scam or Goldmine? Shocking Truth!

🔥 Amid the wave of people who have been scammed after purchasing dropshipping courses, I felt it was important to write this article to set the record straight and shed light on the many myths surrounding this e-commerce model.

I want to make it clear that I have absolutely nothing against the dropshipping business model as long as it’s done properly.

The views expressed in this article simply reflect the experience I’ve gained over the past 20 years in e-commerce.

Enjoy your reading!

📈 The dropshipping trend is still going strong in 2026, it only takes a look at Google Trends to see that the hype around dropshipping is very real.

The internet has radically changed the way we shop. Every day, we’re bombarded with ads from dropshippers launching their products through platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube.

Behind this constant stream of ads lies a reality: the barrier to entry has never been lower.

Today, almost anyone can launch a dropshipping store in just a few hours using platforms like Shopify.

In just a few clicks, you can create a website, add products, connect a supplier, and start selling, without managing inventory or logistics.

This accessibility has democratized e-commerce like never before.

But what exactly is dropshipping?

To put it simply, a merchant using dropshipping is just an intermediary. You place an order with that merchant, and another company, a manufacturer, retailer, or wholesaler ships the product to the customer.

There’s no need to hold inventory or manufacture anything, because someone else produces, stores, and ships the product for you. It’s as simple as that.

Dropshipping is a business model that has existed for decades, and it’s likely to continue thriving for many years to come.

Dropshipping and the dream sold by course sellers

Ah, dropshipping course sellers...

Always the same promises, the same well-rehearsed scripts, the same “impressive” revenue screenshots taken out of context.

They know exactly what to say to grab your attention and make you believe success is just a click away.

The real problem is that they’re selling you a dream that’s completely disconnected from reality, making you believe that dropshipping is a shortcut to easy riches.

They promise that with a simple $50 Shopify store, a “winning product” found through AdSpy, and a few campaigns launched on Facebook, you’ll skyrocket your sales overnight.

In their perfect scenario, everything seems easy: a few clicks, a bit of advertising… and six months later, you’re living in the Caribbean, sipping mojitos under palm trees while working just 2 to 3 hours a day. 🌴

The reality is far less glamorous.

Behind every profitable store are :

👉 Hours of product research and validation.

👉 Expensive (and often initially unprofitable) advertising tests.

👉 A real marketing strategy (SEO, branding, content).

👉 Rigorous management of margins and customer service.

👉 And above all... a lot of failures before finding what works.

💡 Simply put: dropshipping isn't a scam... but promises of ease often are.

It's a real business, requiring hard work, skill and a long-term vision.

Dropshipping: An Alarming Failure Rate!

If you see dropshipping as a quick and easy path to prosperity, let’s look at the numbers first, because numbers don’t lie!

95.5% of beginner dropshippers shut down their stores within their first 6 months of operation!

Yes 95.5%...

These aren't my words, they're real, verifiable figures.

It’s a harsh reality, and that doesn’t even account for those who struggle for 8–10 months, or even a full year, before finally stopping the financial bleeding.

As a digital marketing consultant, I've heard so many horror stories about dropshipping that that's exactly what motivated me to write this article.

But what affects me the most are the people who’ve lost big, those who trusted dropshipping “experts” and gurus who turned out to be nothing more than unscrupulous scammers.

People who get into dropshipping are convinced they’re going to make money. But the ones who truly profit are the intermediaries, platforms like Shopify, Facebook Ads, Stripe, AliExpress, and the people selling courses!

Of course, course sellers will rush to the stage and exclaim:

“But no, it works, it’s just because you don’t know what you’re doing or you don’t have the right method.”

But every time you try to ask them for solid proof of their success, it’s either radio silence or a flood of fake screenshots.

What’s paradoxical is that I have colleagues working in dropshipping who are generating significant revenue.

But let's be very clear:

Their "business model" has nothing to do with the one described by course sellers.

They’re real brand-driven businesses with websites worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, not to mention massive advertising budgets.

Nothing to do with a $50 Shopify store and a few “winning products” found on AliExpress…

Dropshipping: The 3 biggest myths that lead you astray

Let's take a look at what I consider to be the 3 biggest lies about Dropshipping.

Are you ready? It's going to hurt!

  • ❌ #1: ''Facebook advertising is the essential tool for exploding your Dropshipping sales!''

Every time I hear that kind of talk, it honestly makes me laugh… let’s be a bit rational.

You reading this, how many products have you actually bought this year through Facebook ads?

How many people do you know in your circle who actually buy products through Facebook ads?

Personally, I shop online a lot. I spend an average of $3,000 to $4,000 each year on online shopping, and you know what? I’ve never bought anything through Facebook!

Same goes for my family and people around me. In fact, I don’t know anyone, near or far, who regularly shops on Facebook.

But why?

The answer is very simple. 96% of people who shop online do so on trusted, well-known sites like Amazon, eBay, Walmart, Target, Wish, or on established brand websites like Nike, Under Armour, Reebok etc...

Why would you buy a product from a sketchy-sounding store you’ve never heard of in your life?

To ask the question is to answer it.

What you need to understand is that Facebook advertising brings in “cold traffic.” Facebook is a social network, and people using it are not in “buying mode” at all.

They're there to check their news feeds, comment or chat on messenger. Voila!

Now you're going to tell me: "Yes, but it's possible to make sales on Facebook, isn't it?

Absolutely. But know this:

90% of the people who see your Facebook ad won't buy anything right away. The majority of sales on Facebook ads are made via retargeting.

Facebook retargeting ads are one of the platform's most powerful advertising features.

They allow you to reach users who already know your brand, whether through an existing customer list or activity on your site captured by a tracking pixel.

Because they let you connect with an already “warmed-up” audience, retargeting ads typically deliver higher conversion rates and lower average cost-per-click compared to other types of ads.

Once you’ve successfully set up retargeting campaigns that attract high-value customers, you can scale further by creating lookalike audiences based on your highest-value custom audiences.

Sounds great, but how much will it cost to promote your product on facebook ads?

Facebook advertising costs have exploded since 2022. Expect to pay an average of $0.97 per click and $7.19 per 1,000 impressions.

Ad campaigns focused on getting likes or app downloads can expect to pay $1.07 per like and $5.47 per download, on average.

In short, if you’re selling low-ticket items for $10–$20, or even $40 on your dropshipping store, you’ll need to factor in fixed costs like product costs, Facebook Ads, shipping, Stripe transaction fees, not to mention returns and unhappy customers you’ll have to refund, because yes… you will have them!

Hello costs, goodbye profits!

These are the main reasons why so many Dropshipping stores close their doors after only a few months in business.

You wouldn’t believe how many people have come to me bragging about the revenue they’re generating with their stores, only to realize, after deducting all their costs, that they were working for scraps… or even nothing at all!

Always remember: Sales numbers are worthless!

Only net profit counts!

  • ❌ #2: ''You'll be working 2-3 hours a day as the store runs on ''automatic''.

I’ve been working in e-commerce for about twenty years, and I average 7–8 hours a day. I could be working more, but I delegate certain tasks so I can focus on what really matters.

Personally, I don't know any e-entrepreneur or Dropshipper who has achieved prosperity by working 2-3 hours a day, none at all!

I'd say it's quite the opposite. At the start of my adventure, I worked between 10 and 15 hours a day, and sometimes more. I wanted to succeed at all costs, so I didn't count the hours I spent in front of my PC.

Some dropshipping gurus will tell you that Dropshipping only requires 2-3 hours of your time each day, and that you can travel the world while the store runs automatically...

It's the perfect argument to convince you to buy their training courses. But believe me, you won't succeed by working 3 hours a day.

It's a beautiful utopia!

Here again, course sellers will exclaim: "You don't know the miracles of delegation!''

Another empty argument. There are limits to what a Dropshipping entrepreneur can delegate.

You built your company with sweat and pain and you would give full control of it to a complete stranger in China?

Nonsense...

And if you think AliExpress is a reliable source for shipping your products, keep in mind that dropshipping with AliExpress is practically dead due to the lack of control and the poor quality of the supply chain.

You should also know that the holiday season in China can be an absolute nightmare when it comes to delivering your best-selling items.

During this period, it's very difficult, or even worse, impossible to get your products delivered in a reasonable time.

Hello refund claims!

  • ❌ #3: ''Dropshipping only requires $200 to get started and make sales.''

While I must admit that it's possible to start your Dropshipping business for less than $200, it's crucial to understand that this low initial investment in no way guarantees your success.

Your store, no matter how well designed, will face overwhelming and increasingly fierce competition in this saturated sector.

Market leaders invest heavily in branding, marketing, and process optimization to attract and retain customers.

As a result, you'll need to spend far more than the initial amount to generate regular sales, achieve profitability, and hope to stand out in this ultra-competitive field.

Creating an online store is just the beginning of the adventure. Shopify is undoubtedly the most popular platform, thanks to its user-friendly interface and numerous features suitable for beginners and experts alike.

However, there are other equally powerful options, such as BigCommerce, WooCommerce, PrestaShop and Magento.

The choice of platform will depend on your specific needs, your budget, and your technical knowledge.

For example, WooCommerce integrates perfectly with WordPress and offers great flexibility, but requires a certain technical mastery to get the most out of it.

Most of these solutions have relatively similar pricing models. Shopify offers a 14-day free trial, ideal for testing its features and evaluating whether this platform meets your expectations.

After that, you'll have to pay between US$37 and US$99 a month for a basic subscription.

However, don't forget to factor in additional costs, such as the purchase of a domain name, paid applications to customize your store, and transaction fees.

These elements can quickly increase your costs, but they’re essential for creating a high-quality user experience and maximizing your chances of success.

True dropshipping is not dead, It’s just misunderstood

Forget promises of easy profits and "24-hour stores that generate $10,000 a month".

The reality is quite different: dropshipping, when taken seriously, is a true e-commerce business model... with all that this implies.

👉 This requires:

  • Serious market research to validate demand.
  • A solid marketing strategy (SEO, advertising, branding).
  • Rigorous management of margins and costs.
  • An impeccable customer experience (fast shipping, quality, support).

Successful people aren't those who copy a trendy product...

But those who build a brand, a differentiating offer and a sustainable strategy.

In short, dropshipping isn't dead. What is dead are the illusions of easy money.

👉 If you treat it like a "quick side hustle", you'll fail.

👉 If you build it like a real business, you can win.

After all, dropshipping is neither a scam... nor a miracle solution. It's a powerful model, provided you treat it seriously.

Conclusion

As mentioned in the introduction, the real problem isn’t dropshipping itself.

What really causes the problem are these dream sellers who promise the world while trying to take your hard-earned money, only to leave you with nothing but illusions in the end.

Let’s be clear: true Dropshipping, based on solid foundations, works and will continue to work for a long time to come, especially for brands that are able to integrate this model into a well-thought-out global strategy.

On the other hand, if your plan is limited to launching a $50 Shopify store, finding a so-called “winning” product on AliExpress, and investing a few $5 Adsets on Facebook in the hope of hitting the jackpot, it’s best to consider more realistic alternatives.

For example, selling lemonade during a heatwave would probably have a much better chance of success! 😉

The secret to dropshiping success lies in a well-thought-out strategy, well-targeted investments, and an in-depth understanding of market dynamics and consumer needs.

Have you ever been tempted by the enticing promises of a dropshipping guru, guaranteeing exponential income with minimal effort?

I look forward to hearing from you! Strength and prosperity to all!

👉 In concrete terms:

  • You create an online store and offer products.

  • The supplier ships the product directly to the customer.

💡 In short: You act as an intermediary between customer and supplier, without ever handling the products yourself.

👉 No, dropshipping is not a scam per se.

It’s a legal business model used all over the world.

💡 What is a scam are the illusions of easy money sold by unscrupulous course sellers….

Dropshipping on Shopify is an e-commerce model where you sell products without stock.

When a customer places an order on your Shopify site, the order is automatically transmitted to your supplier, who prepares and ships the product directly to the customer, without you having to intervene in the logistics.

Yes, but only with a real strategy:

  • Intelligent product selection.
  • Solid marketing (SEO, advertising, branding).
  • Good margins (often 50-70%).
  • Optimized customer experience.

And above all: serious market research.

Validate demand before selling: trend analysis, competition, customer reviews, search volumes.

💡 Don’t guess… validate with data.

The cost of starting a dropshipping business with Shopify generally ranges from $100 to $500 for the basics.

But this budget only covers technical implementation… not growth.

Dropshipping isn’t expensive to start… but it does require a real investment to become profitable.

Yes… in most cases.

Shopify is one of the best platforms for dropshipping, thanks to its simplicity, its ecosystem of apps and its ability to evolve rapidly.

✔️ Benefits :

  • Easy to use.
  • Ideal for a quick start.
  • Automated dropshipping.

⚠️ Disadvantages:

  • Costs (subscription + apps).

  • Facebook Ads.

3. Social networking

  • Short content (Facebook, TikTok, Instagram).

It’s a strategic step that can make the difference between a profitable store… and a disaster (delays, poor quality, negative reviews).

Effective methods:

Search on Google:

  • “supplier + product + wholesale”.
  • “distributor + niche”.

Explore:

  • Alibaba (wholesalers).
  • B2B directories (e.g. SaleHoo, Worldwide Brands).

Contact the brands directly:

  • 👉 “Do you offer a dropshipping or wholesale program?”.

Here are the hottest dropshipping products in 2026: 👇

  • Dropshipping is still profitable and active.
  • In fact, the market continues to grow strongly.
  • Thousands of boutiques are still being launched every month.

👉 In fact, it doesn’t disappear… it evolves.

⚠️ What’s “dead” today:

✔️ Copy/paste stores.
✔️ Cheap products without branding.
✔️ The “make money easily in 24 hours”.

👉 These methods will no longer work in 2026.
